Athletic Director Jennifer Crane works in her office at Palo Alto High School, which she will be leaving after a decade of contributing to the athletic department. According to Crane, she is proud of her achievements and impact. “Looking back, I’m really proud of what we've accomplished together,” Crane said. “Walking around campus, I know I helped make improvements — whether it's new gear, upgraded facilities, or a stronger team culture — [and] that’s been really meaningful. Paly Athletics has accomplished a lot these past few years and I’m just grateful to have been a part of it. I truly feel like I’m leaving the Paly Athletics Department in a stronger, more unified place than when I stepped into the role.”

According to Prof. Luskin, the Anna Rose Luskin Memorial Award is being given out for the final time this year because he feels it has fulfilled its purpose. “Nothing can replace my own child,” he said. “Anna was an absolutely wonderful, delightful human being. And life moves on. So the 20 years give or take of this award was a lovely way to honor a lovely young human being, and for me now, 20 years after [Anna’s] high school [graduation], it's enough.”

Vallen Queen, secretary at Palo Alto High School, manages the behind-the-scenes of substitute teacher logistics from the front desk at the Tower Building. According to Queen, her post-retirement plans will involve catching up on sleep and setting out for the next chapter of her life. “I'm not going to do too much except sleep for the first six months because I get here at 6:30 in the morning,” Queen said. “Then, I am going to look for a house, probably up near Sacramento, buy a house, and, for the first time in my life, have a house all to myself and decorate it the way I want to and do whatever I want to.”

The Palo Alto boys’ golf team poses with their medals after placing 2nd at the Central Coast Section playoffs at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch on May 13, advancing them to the NorCal Regional Championship on May 27 at Berkeley Country Club, where they finished 3rd. This continued their championship hopes by bringing them to the State Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course on Tuesday. According to senior Ryan Chang, the Vikings had the best chance to make the State championship compared to other years. “We were definitely a little nervous coming down the line but knew this was our best shot at making it compared to previous seasons and in the near future,” Chang said.

According to Lia Cardwell, committed to Emory University for discus throwing in track and field, her sport has taught her many lessons and helped her meet friends. “It [track and field] has taught me so much,” Cardwell said. “I learned discipline, sportsmanship, and it introduced me to so many wonderful people on my team.”

Viking senior Llew Ladomirak said the meet was the perfect conclusion to four years of dedication and teamwork. “The most memorable part of States was getting third in our medley relay,” Ladomirak said. “It was the highest placing relay at States that I’ve ever been a part of and it was a great way to cap off my high school career. …’d love to see Paly continue to do great things as a swim team which I know they’re capable of.”
